The Pigs
Our pigs are bred on farm, raised and rotated through a silvopasture system where they are integrated between being in the forest and grazing pasture. When our pigs are on pasture they munch on long lush grass, rototilling and fertilizing the soil as they go. Whereas when they are in the woods they munch on blackberry bushes, eat lots of acorns falling from the trees and drastically help clean up the forest floor. We continuously rotate the herd back and forth from the woods to pasture and vise versa about every 3 weeks. They are supplemented with Green Mountain Feeds non-gmo grain and are given any vegetable scraps from the fields. Using this system is one of the distinct forms of regenerative agroforestry - improving the environmental, social and economic values of our land. All of this in return creates happy, healthy, strong pigs, providing all of us with some of the best tasting end result! We offer USDA cuts that you can order on our Shop Page or become a pork share member for the purchase of a 1/2 or whole pig.
We are sold out of pork shares for spring 2024 but have a large inventory of USDA pork cuts available at the link below!
The Chickens
Our poultry serve multiple functions on our farm from supplying our friends + family with delicious locally grown meat, cooked for our on + off farm events with RTA Kitchen, and improving soil health and preventing diseased pastures. All of our birds are 100% pasture raised and are fed organic broiler crumbles from Green Mountain Feeds in Bethel, Vermont. We source our chicks from Jenk’s Hatchery in Oregon, the oldest family owned hatchery in the country, and raise about 300 broilers from April - October. Our Rainbow Ranger breed chickens spend almost their entire life on pasture and are moved daily to ensure fresh grass with the help of our livestock dog, Luna! Our finished birds are anywhere from 3-5 pounds, which we find to be the perfect size for a family of 4 people. We sell our birds frozen and whole for $6.75/lb. We believe humanely raising our poultry with organic feed and on pasture makes for a taste incomparable to those factory farmed.
